Product details description
Steel grating is the backbone of industrial walkways, mezzanines, and drainage covers. It is strong, slip-resistant, and allows light and air to pass through.
Bearing Bar Direction and Spacing
The "bearing bars" (the thick bars that carry the load) must run parallel to the direction of traffic/wheel load.
Spacing: Closer spacing (e.g., 1-inch centers) supports heavier loads. Wider spacing is cheaper but deflects more under weight.
Surface Treatment: Serrated vs. Plain
Plain (I-bar): Smooth top surface. Used in clean rooms or where carts with hard wheels roll easily.
Serrated: Has a tooth-like pattern on top. This increases slip resistance by 40-50% and is mandatory for outdoor or oily environments.
Galvanization Standards
Look for ASTM A123 or ISO 1461 standards.
Light Duty: Indoor dry environments (30-50 microns coating).
Heavy Duty: Outdoor or corrosive chemical plants (80+ microns coating). A thicker coating prevents "white rust" (zinc corrosion) in humid conditions.
Connection Type
Welded: Economical, permanent. The cross bars are resistance-welded to the bearing bars.
Press-Locked (Swage-Locked): The cross bars are pressed into the bearing bars. Stronger and safer for heavy dynamic loads, as it prevents the bars from shearing off under vibration.
